The Stanford Math Tournament (SMT) is an elite annual math competition for high school students, organized by Stanford University students. SMT is supported by the Stanford Undergraduate Mathematics Organization (SUMO) and the Stanford Department of Mathematics, with collaboration from Rice, Columbia, and Johns Hopkins Universities. Since 2000, SMT has attracted thousands of top-performing students globally—over 2,300 students from 21 countries participated in 2024.

斯坦福数学竞赛SMT
The Stanford Math Tournament provides both individual and team-based challenges in algebra, geometry, combinatorics, calculus, and proof-based reasoning.
SMT is offered in two formats: in-person and online. The in-person tournament is available exclusively to high school students residing in the United States, while international students or U.S.-based students unable to travel may choose to compete in the online division, ensuring accessibility to talented participants worldwide.
Four Rounds
Individual Round
General Test: 110-minute individual exam consisting of 25 short answer questions that is designed for students that have less specialized mathematical background.
Subject Tests: two 50-minute individual exams consisting of 10 short answer questions. The subjects offered are Algebra, Calculus, Discrete (Number Theory & Combinatorics), and Geometry
Team Round: 50-minute exam consisting of 15 short answer questions.
Power Round: 80-minute exam focused on proof-writing. The content of the test focuses on a single subject matter that is usually significantly different from traditional competitive math problems.
Guts Round: 80 minute live-scored team exam consisting of 9 series of 3 questions each, whereby teams must submit answers to a previous round in order to gain access to the next.
参赛资格
The Stanford Math Tournament welcomes high school students from around the world who are passionate about mathematics. While most teams are formed by schools, independent teams and cross-school teams are also accepted.
High school students (grades 9–12) from any country.
Teams can be formed with students from different schools.
A school or organization may register multiple teams.
