Camp for Gifted Youth Program

Overview

The Camp for Gifted Youth (CGY) is a two-week AI summer camp launched by the Franklin Education Foundation, held at UC Berkeley. Designed for talented middle and high school students, the program delivers an immersive experience through the GEN AI Project, a signature track under the CGY umbrella. From exploring large language models (LLMs) to building AI-powered rover and drone applications, students gain hands-on experience in real-world tech projects while developing essential skills like cross-cultural communication, collaboration, and public speaking. Set on the world-class UC Berkeley campus, CGY empowers students to explore innovation and build future-ready confidence.

What our Students say their experience?

Hear directly from our students about their experiences with these programs and how these opportunities have positively influenced their academic journeys.

Jackson. P.

8th Grade Participant

“I originally joined because I was into robotics, but this camp helped me understand how AI can be applied in the real world. I never thought I’d be able to program a drone to recognize shapes and respond—but we actually did it! Watching our drone respond to code and take off with remote control was one of the coolest moments of my life.”

Maya. Q.

10th Grade Participant

“I used to avoid public speaking, but during this camp we had to present our final project to students and instructors. I was super nervous, but my teammates encouraged me, and by the end I actually enjoyed the experience. It gave me confidence I didn’t know I had.”

Louis L.

9th Grade Participant

“The highlight for me was stepping onto the UC Berkeley campus—it was my first time at a college like this. Seeing the labs, hearing from real AI researchers, and working on projects made me realize I want to study computer science in the future. I even started an AI interest group at my school when I came back.”
