The USA Economics and Business Olympiad (USAEBO) is a national academic competition for high school students interested in economics, finance, and business. The competition challenges students to apply economic theory and analytical thinking to real-world problems while competing with peers across the United States. USAEBO also serves as the official pathway for U.S. students to qualify for Team USA at the International Economics Olympiad (IEO), making it an excellent opportunity for students studying AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics to further develop their economic knowledge and problem-solving skills.

USAEBO competition prep for high school students who interested in economics and business

ELIGIBILITY

The USA Economics and Business Olympiad (USAEBO) is open to high school students who are interested in economics, finance, and business studies.

Students of any citizenship are welcome to participate in the competition. Participants must be 20 years old or younger on the first day of the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) in the competition year.

To be eligible for Team USA selection, students must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be a U.S. permanent resident (green card holder)
  • Be a full-time middle or high school student studying in the United States

Students who meet these requirements and perform well in the competition may advance through the selection process for international representation.

STRUCTURE

The USAEBO competition consists of two rounds, designed to evaluate students’ understanding of economics and business concepts.

Round 1 – Open Round
Round 1 is open to all registered students and serves as the initial screening stage. Participants complete a multiple-choice exam covering fundamental economics and business topics. Students who achieve top scores will qualify for the next stage.

Round 2 – Final Round
Round 2 is open only to students who qualify through Round 1. This stage features more advanced questions designed to test deeper analytical thinking and economic reasoning.

The competition is conducted individually, and students compete with peers from across the United States.
